SAGANATT: Doomed Love in Viking Times

 by Joan Hoiness Bouchelle

From the icy fjords and mountains of Norway to the deserts of Miklegard (Old Istanbul),  down to Jorvik (Old York) and even to the dark hills and streams of Iceland, this story follows the affairs of a highborn Viking family.  Three generations mature, separate, then come together again in glad expectations, soon to be overshadowed by the indisputable authority of the Church.

What are Reviewers Saying?

Coffee Time Romance gives 4 cups!

"Saganatt is not a traditional historical romance.  The historical detail is not there to color
the background and add depth to the plot, but it's almost a living, breathing character in
the book.  If you're a fan of the Viking era, this book is priceless." ~ Gen Thomas ~ Coffee Time Romance

About the Author

Born on the East coast of Norwegian parentage, Joan enjoyed a bi-cultural childhood and youth where great emphasis was placed on religion, schooling and sports.  Inexorably drawn to her cultural heritage, the Viking era presented the opportunity to research a way of life often short-changed in modern scholarship.  Joan married and lived for six years in the Superior National Forest area of Minnesota.  Then the growing family re-located to Southern California.  With four children, she pursued her interests in writing, music, horses and blue water sailing.  With her husband, she has traveled to most of the locales lived in by the characters in her novel. She attended Vassar and earned her BS and RN at Columbia University in New York.  She earned her MA in English Literature at California State University in Fullerton.

What is blue water sailing?  How did you become involved in this?

Blue water sailing is sailing out in deep - very deep - water.  That's where the sea looks bluest and sailboats can know the promise (and demands) of wind and wave without the interference of land.   Being of Norse extraction, the sea has been in my blood, but it took my landlocked husband to get me off lakes and on the sea.  We started out when the children were small and have sailed ever since.
